Default 2014 and a 1980 nose to nose-

Love the looks of the 1980. inside and out is mint. still even smells new with the vinyl seats-

That was a great body design...I had an '84 XLT that I bought new and kept it until 1997. That's when most trucks had a regular cab and a 8' bed.

In all fairness, the 2014 is designed to collapse if you will to absorb the impact to protect the occupants. The 1980 was designed to withstand as much impact as is reasonable, but ultimately causing more trauma to the occupants.

I had a 1983 3/4 ton with a 460, at the time it seemed like a monster truck, my wife wouldn't drive it. She has no problems with the new F150.

Well ACTUALLY, The original 1980 models had SERIOUS problems. That was Ford's first stab at making a "newer", "lighter", F150. They put MANY lightening holes all over the frames, and when contractors would buy them, they had a bad habit of collapsing right in the middle. I worked for Ford at the time and Ford ended up making a reinforcing "patch kit" for the frame rails. Compared to the '79, it was a total POS.
