Default 2013 lariat Remote Start

I am picking up my new F150 next week and it comes with a remote start on the key. When building it on the Ford website, I saw a bi-directional key fob as an option. Does anyone know the difference between the OEM remote start and the optional fob???

Thanks...

The biderectional remote beeps or flashes to let you know your truck is started, sends a signal back to the remote (bidirectional), also the bd remote can be used further away. I had this on my old truck (aftermarket) and is a nice feature if your at work or in a place you can't see your truck out the window and see the lights on to make sure it's started.

Ford sells one that the dealer can install. I had a viper unit installed on my last truck (2010) Tundra by a local stereo shop. They are usually called "2 way remote start". The viper key fob had a LCD display that showed if your doors were locked or unlocked, if your car was running, also what the air temp inside the truck was. Also it worked up to almost a mile away. It was around $500 installed on my Tundra though but it was the top of the line. They have cheaper 2 way remote starts without the LCD display. It just flashes on the key fob if it starts like the aftermarket Ford one. Looks like the Ford one is at least $500 installed. I would just get a nice Viper or similar with the LCD remote for the same money from a local installer or stereo shop, it's a lot better than the ford one.

go aftermarket. you get better range and theyre cheaper plus you have many other options with aftermarket.

i just installed a python 414 on my dads 2012. got the system and the bypass for $127. a ford plug and play system was almost $300 with a 1000ft range. the Python is a 2000ft range.

the system installed is a one-way remote. ive got a two-way sitting next to me. paid $150 for it. DIRECTEDs website prices it at about $450.

Amazon. its a Python 424 Responder. they are $156 right now (only two left) dont forget on top of the remote start you need a transponder bypass as well, theyre another $45.

the XPRESSkit PKTX and D-BALL work with the 2012s. i used the PKTX and programmed it by hand.
