If you're going to keep it for more than 100,000 miles get the 5.0

2012 fx4 ecoboost with 20 inch wheels/3.73 gears.. Have 11,000 miles and lifetime mileage is 18.2. Mainly driving city/suburbs hardly ever on highway..Running 55-60 I can get 22-23 mpg.run 70-75 I get around 18-19. A lot depends on how you drive etc.really a smooth ride with the 20's have been very impressed with that. These new trucks really are more like a luxury truck these days especially the Fx4 with the floor console shifter etc..

Eco for the fun factor. 5.0V8 is nothing special to drive IMO. Makes a lot of noise but seems to go nowhere. I'm currently sorta-looking for a new truck and drove the 5.0 20 minutes ago. Can't bring myself to like it as much despite trying very hard. 6.2L is also nothing special IMO.
That's all I wish to contribute to this thread, now I sit back, grab some popcorn and watch the **** hit the fan.

Not sure if the EcoBoost needs to "break-in" before unleashing all the neck-snapping acceleration I keep reading about here, but it was just "meh" overall, almost fell asleep on the route back actually.
I've said it 100 times already, I love the tech and innovation with the EcoBoost and I know it works better in a towing situation than the 5.0, but no it is not as fun around town as the V8. But that is just my opinion.
Ohh and I find the comment about all noise and not going anywhere about the 5.0L so untrue it's almost not worth commenting about, even the 3.7L trucks don't feel slow to me.
I have an Scab, 5.0, 2wd, and it is almost too fast for a work truck. I actually told my salesman this when I took it out for its first test drive 2 years ago.

My first post and I'm going through this same decision right now. I'm picking up a SCAB FX4 later this week and had a choice between the two motors.
I'm going with the 5.0...it just feels better to me. I know the EB is faster and makes a **** ton more power with basic bolt ons, but I just don't like the feel of the truck with that motor. If I wanna go fast I guess I'll just hop in my Mustang...

Lol, that's funny because your review of the 5.0 mirrors my thoughts on the two EcoBoost trucks I drove a week ago at the dealer. One a Max Tow, Max Payload, 3.73, EB and the other a used FX4 Super Crew, short bed with 20" wheels, 3.55 axle. The Screw FX4 with 3.55 was slightly quicker than the heavy Max Payload Screw 6.5 I drove first. You guys prefer your V8, I like my V6. Now let's coexist as collective ford owners.
