Are all of these examples on eco-boost trucks?

my 5.0 has none of these issues, and shifts to 4x4 hi at any speed with barely perceptible noise.

I certainly would not try to shift if I was already spinning.

Thats because the 5.0 doesn't make enough power to make anything slip lol

very funny, but not accurate. See here

Engine Type 3.7L V6 302 @ 6500 rpm Torque 278 @ 4000 rpm
3.5L V6 EcoBoost® HP 365 @ 5000 rpm Torque 420 @ 2500 rpm
5.0L V8 HP 360 @ 5500 rpm Torque 365 @ 5000 rpm
6.2L V8 Horsepower 411 @ 5500 rpm Torque 434 @ 4500 rpm

The 5.0 is 5 HP less at 500 RPM more, but it is the torque that matters. 420 vs 380 but the 5.0 is nearly twice as fast to get there, Shift down two or three gears and the torque on the transfer case ill be higher.

I expected that both would use the same transmission and transfer case, with only the shift points being different. Not true?

Just signed up because of this thread, i've got a 2014 ecoboost Lariat cclb with the Auto 4wd setting. We tow a 4,000lb jeep on an 1,800lb trailer fairly regularly. Our truck has 13,000 miles on it and now any time it's in 4wd auto or high it will generate that loud clunk, or bang from what appears to be the transfercase when under load. It sounds almost exactly like the banging in the video that was posted. Going in a straight line it's generally fine until you put some type of load on it like going up a steep hill or accelerating onto the highway it will bang quite viciously. We brought it to Ford and they were able to replicate the banging, they tore the case apart, and it had no signs of any premature wear, and ultimately said that this is a result of the 4wd auto setting causing the clutch discs to lock up when engaged on high traction surfaces. My dealer is frustrated as they don't buy into this and clearly i'm frustrated that a brand new truck has all kinds of loud banging/clunking when driving down the road in 4wd. I PM'd Ford Service on here and we'll see what he has to say.

Sub'd. 2014 XLT screw Ecoboost. If I'm driving in 2wd and feel the need to switch to 4wd, I must coast for approx 5 full seconds (which is quite a while when driving), even if the "4x4 shift in progress" goes away sooner, to avoid this from happening. If I try to get on the gas any sooner, I get the loud and violent clunks. I agree it doesn't seem right and should be much more seamless. Last time this happened,I was going up a hill that went from wet to snowy and I started spinning. I coasted, shifted to 4wd, waited for the shift sign to go away (maybe 2 seconds) and got back on the gas, to avoid losing too much momentum going up this hill. Sure enough 'CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK." Not thrilled
