2013 5.0 Bogging Between 3rd and 4th gear
Hi,
I am new to this and have been having this ongoing issue with my truck since I bought it with 60,000 mile on it. I have done a lot of changes trying to remedy this bogging issue and lose of power at about 2500 to 3500 RPM in 3rd gear. I have replaced the MAF, cleaned the throttle body and placed and aftermarket intake on the truck from K&N. I ended up taking the Intake off because it made it worse. I lifted it and put 35's on it and now it is really noticeable. Anyone have any idea, my mechanic told me that a tuner would do the trick. Any help would be awesome as it is driver me insane.

I’m sure someone with more knowledge will chime in, but it sounds like it could be the torque converter? My 2014 has what feels like an extra shift in 3rd gear and it's usually quite slow...from researching on this forum it sounds like a sloppy torque converter is common.

The 35s are the first mistake. You did not mention your rear gear ratio, but anything over a 33" tire on a 5.0L will cause problems without re-gearing or tuning. A tuner will just mask the issue. I have the 3.55 rear end and changing to 33" is noticeable. The torque band for the 5.0L is in the higher RPM range.

With tires that size you need about 4.11 gears just to get things back to normal assuming your truck has 3.55's now. If you have 3.31's I don't see how it has enough power to do anything.

Maybe it needs to be reprogrammed.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or more and run it through the relearn process?

We have done everything from having Coil packs redone to wires to Throttle body cleanings. Dealer basically said it was normal and made me feel crazy. My personal mechanic just told me to buy a tuner because no codes or anything are being thrown.
