Default 2011 worse that 2010?

So just for grins i went to build a new f-150 on the ford website. I figured that with the option of this new bigger engine i should see what towing capacities would be. I found out that the 6.2 has a lower towing capacity than the new 5.0. You also cannot get the new 6.2 in any of the fancy 150s (FX4, lariat etc). why is it that the new trucks can only tow 9.500lbs while the 2010s can tow 11,000 with the max tow package (which BTW is no longer offered). So now if i want to tow a bigger trailer i either have to get an older truck or get a super duty. Are they just trying to get us to buy super dutys? Why does the bigger engine have less power? Why cant the trucks of this year tow as much as the trucks of last year?

its all just what they want to say. they are trying to promote the ecoboost for towing. You can pull just as much as the 2010's if you want just screw the fine print. IMO of course.

looks like you can have it rated for 11,000+ to me...and you just weren't looking 'fancy' enough.

but really, if you're planning on towing that much often, get a bigger truck. just because you can doesnt mean you should.

Personally, I think the max tow ratings set by manufacturers are a bunch of sh*t... I've towed over 9k lbs with my 94 thats rated for like 5k... IMO the companies are just covering their behind by lowering the tow cap.

there is a lot more that goes into determining a 'safe' tow rating than pulling power. engine power/torque, brakes, suspension, wheelbase all play a role. do you really think a raptor with the 6.2 can only pull 5000? same engine thats rated for 11,000 in the platinum. but there are MANY other differences.

that said, I'm sure they include a healthy safety margin as any company should. I'm sure the engineers calculate what is safe then the lawyers take that, meet with marketing and decide what level of risk they are willing to take before they publish the numbers.

and as I said before, just because you can pull it doesnt mean you should. there's a lot going on besides getting the load moving that you dont see and it does cause increased wear and tear. then again, judging by the way you wrote your post, you sound like the type that will pull over the limit then complain that it's the trucks fault if something were to go awry...maybe I'm wrong, I dont know you but thats the way your post comes across.

I know the Ecoboost motor is a pretty sweet deal in the SHO, and i would have to test before purchase, but i find it hard to believe that it would tow just as well or better than the bigger V-8s.

why are some people so stupid?

Look at the chart: http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f...ations/towing/

the 6.2 will tow 11,300 and max tow is available. So no, you don't need an older truck or a superduty, you either need an ecoboost or 6.2 in a Lariat, Platinum or Harley.

could it also be b/c the Raptor is pushing 35 inch tires with only a 4.10 gear ratio? which probably puts it closer to a F150 rolling on 31 inch tires an a 3.55?

Ford doesnt want to do warranty work from the trans being ripped apart

WOW somebody needs a Midol.

First off when doing the "build and price" on the website the Max towing package isn't listed. Secondly, neither is the new Ecoboost motor.

The ecoboost isn't going to be available until Feb. or March 2011.
