Default 2008 F150 ABS Module

I have a 2008 F150 STX w/4.2 V6.. It has an unbelievable 55,000 miles.. I just used it to go to work, or when I needed to haul something. I lived only 6 miles from work..I'm retired now and drive it even less. It has only required routine maintenance. The ABS & Brake warning lights have come on continuously. I took it to a popular auto repair chain. Reviews for being competent & fair are high.
However they charged $153 just to diagnosis the problem. They say the ABS module shows a FAULT.
They estimate $2600. to replace and program a new one! This sounds outrageous! I read on the internet that the module could cost $500-$800 and labor around the same. What do y'all think?
I'm going to get some other diagnostic opinions and estimates. I probably should have gone to Auto Zone and let them read the error code and save the $153 but any repair shop would probably code it first anyway.

Get some more opinions and have them give you the error code info they find and let us know.
