Default 2008 F150 ABS Code - B1596

Hello All,

I'm new to the forum and need some help getting to the root of my problem with my truck...My ABS light has been on for some time...I bought an OBDII scanner and it came up with C1230 (Rear Speed sensor) and B1596 (Service continuous codes)...
I changed the VSS last night and now the C1230 code is clear but the B1596 wont clear and the ABS light is still ON...Any suggestions? I clear the B1596 code with my scanner and it comes back within seconds.
Anyone have this one before?

Help,

Sam

This DTC does not indicate a malfunction of the ABS. If other DTCs are present, REPAIR them before addressing this DTC. Some DTCs cannot be detected by the ABS module until the ignition is cycled from ON to OFF and back to ON again. When DTCs are cleared using the scan tool, the ignition needs to be cycled in order to clear this DTC and have the ABS module check for other DTCs.

Thanks for the reply...This is what is stumping me...after changing the Rear speed sensor, my C1230 code cleared...the B1596 remains. I have reset with the scanner, I have cycled the ignition, I have tried battery disconnected and driven for a long drive...still B1596 will not clear and there are no other DTC's being detected...Any ideas? Could I have a bad ABS module? I thought there was a code for that...maybe a fuse? Your help is appreciated...

Going to need to do some pinpoint tests on the wiring, ABS module, as well as the instrument panel cluster to determine where the fault is located, for that I'm afraid your going to have to take it to the dealer.

You can try unplugging the abs hcu (under hood with all the brake lines going into it) and look for corroded/pushed out pins as well as the pcm connector, and instrument panel cluster. If nothing is obvious to the dealer you must go.

Good luck.

Thanks Rnlcomp...I did unplug the ABS HCU and checked the terminals...no corrosion or bent pins...
Hate the thought of going to the dealer, but I think you're right...

Just for grins and giggles go ahead and disconnect the PCM connectors (3 I believe) they have lever locks that pull them tight.

Had a friend with a similar problem on her Expedition and just reseating the connector cleared up the problem.

Ford is known for connector issues.

Unplugged the 3 PCM plugs and replugged...Checked fuses F14,F103,F112 and still the dreaded B1596 code remains...Aaarrggghhh!!!
Anyone other ideas???

Sam

The fix for me was a melted 2 wire harness to the speed sensor on top of the differential. Spliced them together and all is well. Hope that helps.
If your B1596 stays on you haven't cured the problem.
