Default 2005 5.4 shaking

Thanks for having me and appreciate any assistance.

Sold my company and kept 1 truck to replace the one I am using currently. It is as follows:
2005 5.4 3v
190k miles
4x4

Was running good but had a studder at 45-50 when gently coming out of OD. Research led me to a misfire. The truck does not have any adverse symptoms typical of these vehicles, which is why I kept this one.

So I ordered all new spark plugs , new coils and two vvt sensors (newest version)(All parts are Motorcraft). Spent today changing them (torqued to 25) out and after successfully completing the job I started the truck and the engine was shaking. This was new. Took it for a 1/2 mile test and the trans is now jerking too.

All these symptoms are new AFTER all new OEM parts were changed. No CEL, no codes.

Love to hear ideas.

Appreciate it.

Is Studder a mix of stutter and shudder, or an entirely new meaning?

Put it back the way it was one part at a time, when it runs good then that was where you went wrong.

? where did you purchase these parts ?

? did you have any codes from original issue (before changing parts?

? did you check spring connections to coils (on new coils), before installing them?

That is good way to put it. It was a slight 1 to 2 second pause between shifts. A little stutter and a little shudder, definitely not a slip.

1) from the Ford dealership parts counter
2) it would throw p0300 every couple of weeks. Clearing it it would randomly come back. Might be 5 days, might be 7 miles. But it spent more miles with it off than on.
3) I took the boots off to check that and before putting them back on I lightly greased up the boot. Each spring stuck out from the boot 1/4" before and after playing with the boot.

? did you blow and or vacuum out the plug wells prior to pulling. the old plugs?

since you bought parts at dealership there should be virtually no chance of counterfeit parts, so that is good. if i were you i’d start with triple checking all of the wiring plugs from your work (all coils and the vcts). if any don’t “snap” together, then i’d use strips of duct tape to tape them snug. then re-test drive. ideally it’s fixed (obviously), but next best would be it pops a code.

post back with updates as you go. good luck.

Took it for another drive and it did give me some codes. Misfires, o2 sensors, a host of crap that did not lead to the actual issue.

Spent the day testing and retesting everything I touched. Eventually found a broken wire leading to injector 4. Spent 2 hours tearing up the loom and rewiring the plug. Put it all back together and it purrs like a kitten.

Thank you for the ideas.
