Default 2004 5.4L Motor Problem

Hi Guys,
I own a 2004 F150 that i bought used. It has approx. 90k on it, ( a one owner ) i just had the auto trans rebuilt, $4ooo. for that, now the engine light came on, at the same time she felt like i had Bad gas in the tank. Running very rough ! Again back to a Ford dealer and it reads "Cam Fazer" ( not sure of the spelling) $3500 to fix that!! Anyone ever hear of this problem? Is this common on a 5.4L with only 90k on her?? I am ready to jump off a bridge. thanks for your time guys.
an unhappy F150 owner...

Does it sound like a diesel at idle?

aww yes im assuming you have the new body style? non heritage. yes a very common occurence when you use joe blow oil filters or go to long with out changing your oil. normally accompanied with engine noise at idle. sad to say that is an expensive repair.

It gets better! Ford calls me to say, forget the cam problem, you need a new engine... They found sludge and pieces of plastic in the motor.... Even though we changed the oil and oil filter 3 times since we owned the truck every 3k miles!!! BUT we bought her from a Dealership who got her in a trade. A ONE OWNER from Penn. We are in NJ. I guess the jerk who owned her before us just beat her and NEVER did any maintance.... LUCKY ME!! Oh yea.......$7300. + nj tax for a new ( rebuilt maybe jasper motor )!!!!!!!!!!

Dont have a dealership do your work. You can go to a small shop that will use the same parts (without the large upcharge) and most will stand behing their work more than a big dealer will. Just saying you could have that repair done for about half the cost.

X1000

Dont go to just any joe blow shop, make sure its reputable and will stand behind their work, but yea, going to the dealer for anything past the warranty will only cost you 2X as much and anywhere else.

Yes reputation is important. Thanks to all of you fine people! It is so frustrating when you think you are buying a strong truck and it turns out to be cheaper if I purchased New... thanks again for your input! skyloft

sorry to hear that man. Sucky part about buying used...you don't know what its been through. It should be a great truck once you get it repaired from the previous owners negligence.
