Angry 2000 F-150 2wheel drive pinion gear problems.

In October 2015 I replaced the pinion gear in my 2000 F-150 2 whl dr. Then again in November 2016 by the 2nd week of January 2017 the whine is back. Was there ever a notification of a recall on this issue? I am looking for the rear end on line and surprisingly there are not as many available as I was expecting....unless your willing to spend over a grand + for some new condition after market. I live in Traverse City, Michigan....the home of the giant sized potholes...2nd home to badly made older roads....I don't know this to be the problem but I am trying to find out why this continued problem. Anyone know this to be a general issue...all normal paved road driving under 6400 a year...Thanks for any clue.

Sounds to me like you didn't set the pinion depth or torque the pinion nut correctly. Once set it won't change except for wear and that takes several years. The other possibility is changing just the pinion gear without changing the ring gear, that's something you just don't do for reasons you describe.

The mechanic I had replace it installs about 10 to 14 pinion gears a year...this is the first time he has had this problem...and suggested I get another rear end last November. Unfortunately I only work 6 months a year and don't draw unemployment so I tried to go cheap. Now the local boneyards have no differentials used so I am waiting for the mechanic to get back to me after checking his resources...
