Default 2.7 vs 5.0

Good day,

i am shopping for a f.150 (used) 21-23 year models. This would be my first truck I’ve bought.
i have done a good bit of research but would like you guys opinion.
It seems those who have the 5.0 say go 5.0 and those with the 2.7 say go with the 2.7
my question.. what do you guys think? I won’t be towing anything besides potentially a small trailer with a dirtbike or moving things from place to place (ex. Couch, tv stand etc.) I live in the smaller city but often drive to a nearby city (approx. 45 miles away).
im leaning towards the 2.7. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Either one would work well. Yes, I have a 5.0, but not the same reason as most. I'm an olde school guy, and have to have the V8 sound.

With your anticipated usages the 2.7 is a good choice. The outputs of the two engines are very similar, Just be aware that the 5.0 comes with 450lbs greater payload than the stock 2.7, which may matter to you if you tend to fill all the seats when towing.

Any specific reason behind it? Seems the 5.0 or 2.7 are the most reliable

I would go with the 2.7. 5.0 if you like the sound of a V8. You don’t need the 3.5EB power it sounds, and I wouldn’t want the 3.3 NA as it will not have the power if needed in case you want to tow or do anything.

That all said, 2.7 EB sounds perfect for what you need. It’s also fun to drive. It has some amazing low down power that you don’t expect.

I will not detract from those who like the V8 sound, but the turbo v6 is an entirely different sound is not a detriment to my ear. Both have good driving feel with the 2.7 slightly more eager due to turbos, both reliable, both great engines with history.
I'm a diehard 2.7 booster but harbor no faults with the 5.0. The largest driving difference is in the 2,7 robust torque delivery at lower speed (rpm). I simply find the 2.7 more fun! KM

Not knocking the others, but because it is efficient, reliable, seems more than adequate for what you described wanting/needing and would likely cost less.
