Looking to get my first f150 used, this will be for of course home owner needs truck, but also have 68 Corvette and would like to be able to rent auto transport to take to Carlyle car show or others when needed, and would rather not drive the that distance. Wanted advice on which would be best 2012, 2011 or 2009 and reasons why not I am mechanical but not looking for one that needs work and definitely not one which rusted out rockers etc

If you’re speaking of 12th generation only (09-14), I would stick with 2011+ as they offer the better engine choices.

09-10 still had the 3v 5.4, which you should avoid unless you like replacing timing parts.

I would argue that the 09/10 had the best (most reliable) engine available: 4.6 2v.

(agree on avoiding 5.4 3v, unless you have personal/reliable knowledge of its history/maint)

I’ve read the 09 is good choice but also as mentioned the 2011 has 3.5 or 5.0? Will either of these be good for towing my Vette is 3500 lbs

That purely depends on which options you need/want.

I had an 11 3.5 ECO and it was one of my favorite trucks to tow with. I'm not a huge fan of U-Haul rental trailers for classic cars. As a fellow classic owner, I'd consider buying a trailer to know you have one that is properly maintained.
