Default 1990 5.0L starter type

I have a 1990 f150 4wd 5.0l EFI with original 4 speed trans.
I rebuilt the engine and upgraded to a mazda 5 sp.
the 1990 starter doesn't have a solenoid on it and bolts to the block....
It has just ONE wire from the starter relay on the inner fender to the styarter.

the 5 sp starter needs to bolt to the housing and is the type with
a solenoid ON the starter. it has a center terminal for a big wire and a small terminal for a small wire on the solenoid on top of the starter

My question is can I just hook up the one wire from the starter relay(on the inner fender) to the 5 sp starter solenoid center terminal/bolt. and not hook up the other solenoid small solenoid terminal on my application?

I have not changed any of the wiring it is all still 1990 stock.....

thnks

Default Starter

The big bolt on the center of solenoid on the starter for the big lead off the solenoid and the little 2ire to the other terminal. I am assuming there are two large terminals on the sides of the solenoid on the fender one from battery or alt and the other goes to the middle of the starter solenoid other little.wire to small terminal on starter. Hope this helps.

Simple solution connect the large wire from the fender mt. solenoid [relay] to the large center terminal on the starter solenoid. then run a short jumper from the small terminal on the starter to the large center terminal. when you turn the key the fender mount relay will send power to the starter and at same time activate the solenoid on the starter.
When the key is released will cut power to both starter and solenoid just as if you had the original type starter.
You need to activate the solenoid on the starter as this is what engages the drive gear.

thank you that one makes sense and is the easiest solution. figured it had to be straight forward since both the starters use the same fender relay wired the same.
