1985 Bronco problem

Default 1985 Bronco problem

Hey guys,
Im looking into possibly buying a 1985 Bronco for $850 they say it runs good, the 4x4 works but it shuts off when u put it into drive.....any ideas what this problem could be? Easy fix or potentially big problem?...just trying to figure out if it would be worth it. Body is in good shape

Trying to remember those days, carburator, CFI or EFI? Either case, check for vacuum leaks, EFI engines had the throttly bodies getting junked up and had to be cleaned with cleaner and bottle brushes, carbs and CFI had electric idle solenoids. EGR valves not sealing tightly.

All minor stuff and not hardly worth passing up on a good buy. I Recently purchased an 88 Bronco II for $400.00. Had extensive front end damage but it is well suited for my Desert exploring.

I believe its carbed. thanks for the input. they did say they thought it was likely a vacuum leak or problem with the carb. so at least that part adds up and they arent trying to bs just to sell the thing.

hmmm interesting...maybe they are thinking the TB is the carb Oh well its looking like Im not going to be buying it now...too much money spent on Christmas presents.

Just realised that you didnt say which motor was in it, the straight six's were carbed, the 85 v 8's were the first year of EFI and had a throttle body, shame you're not buying it now, would make a great gift to yourself

It may have been the 6 then. Ya I would have loved to have it, for the money it doesnt seem like a bad deal at all if the problem is minor. I love full size Broncos.

Not true. The 302 got EFI in 1985, the 300 got EFI in 1987, and the 351 got it in 1988.

What engine is in that Bronco you are looking at?

Not trying to split hairs, but my wifes 1985 Cougar 5.0 was CFI, anything is possible.

Im not sure which engine it had, I found it on Craigslist. I was kinda hoping it had a 351. but Im not going to be looking into it anymore now. Gotta save up some more money after all this Christmas shopping
