Default 180k miles - Reliability

I have a 2013 Platinum F150 4x4 6.2l with 180k miles. It is in really good condition so I am considering keeping it long term. I have mainatined it well, replacing things as needed and routine oil changes with synthetic oil. Its been garaged it whole life. The engine runs strong and does not use any oil. I tow a travel trailer on long trips, thousands of mile a year. I am mostly worried about the transmission, 6R80. I worry about being a long way from home towing the trailer and having the transmission go out. Should I be thinking about rebuilding the transmission just to be safe?

Are you the original owner? Has the trans ever been serviced? Does it display any oddities? My 13 has 16oK now and I am considering, when the time comes possibly just doing an engine and transmission. Too many issues with the new stuff!

Fresh fluid often in the 6r80 is key to keep leadframe issues at bay. Otherwise, it’s a really good transmission.

You could always replace the leadframe to not worry about it.

Im not sure I’d worry most about the transmission. An older truck in general is fine, but I’d be more concerned towing with it on long trips. Just anything can go.

I will sell my 2017 when it’s 10 years old and buy a new one because I never want to have issues when pulling our camper. Too much of a headache that I don’t want to deal with on vacation 1000+ miles from home.

Yes, I am the original owner. Changes the fluid at 100k. No oddities. How long do these usually last? is 180k pushing it?

I think you’ll be fine for a good while. Don’t ignore quirkiness or you get expensive lessons.

Feed it right, take care of it, hope OEM design flaws don’t rear their head (if any) and keep trucking along.

I just took my 278K+ ‘03 to the shop for an engine swap a couple hours ago. I’m sure you can get at least that far with better technology in your truck.
