07 5.4 head problems
I recently bought an 07 f150 with a 5.4 l engine as a fixer upper it had a miss on #3 cyl with 105kms on it we ended up pulling The valve cover off to inspect and found a rocker and valve spring laying in there and a bent valve still in the head I pulled the head off and there is a small mark on the piston where the valve contacted but not much of a mark my question is what would cause this to happen? And is it safe to put a new head on knowing the piston has contacted the valve before?
Yeah you can probably put it back on without an issue. I bet your connecting rod and piston rings are okay. There are a lot of "what could've happened"s here. Maybe the valve spring or something else broke and the valve got stuck open, so the piston hit it... who knows. Replace the parts, tell us what it does.
