06 f150 with cluster problems
My cluster goes out and I pull #21 (cluster keep alive power fuse) out and put right back in and cluster works until next time it goes out. Then u repeat in and out process. Any suggestions ? Cold solder from I've been reading but need more advice, any would help.
If you can get to it, check the plug into the cluster's plastic circuit board and see if it is loose. This will cause a low voltage reset requirement, which you're doing by pulling the fuse and putting it back. Some dash removal is usually required.
97+ clusters are non serviceable, you have an IC chip over heating and needs to be sent to an authorized repair center or anyone that knows how to work on them, probably cheaper if you can find a donor cluster at a salvage yard.
.
Mileage is stored in the cluster itself. You'll either need to find one that's the same as yours or find a dealer willing to put the correct mileage on the new cluster.
Thanks Marc D, I'm not too familiar with the cluster in my truck and that's a great idea because I spoke with a cluster specialist company that said they would look at it and change it in a couple of hours while I wait but the guy said it could cost from $120-$220 and I don't want to pay that if I can do it myself. Another post said its usually a cold solder on the back of the cluster, to check it and if it is to put a dab of solder but it makes more sense from what you said so thanks again. I will try as soon as I get a chance and let you.
