Default 04 Exhaust Dump

I've got a 04 FX4 and earlier this week I found a spot on my exhaust pipe where I can unscrew the bolt and slide my whole muffler and tail pipe off right where the bed starts, I did this to see how it would sound and run with no muffler on and it sounded and ran great! I figured if I put a elbow or a pipe leading out in front of my back tire there would be no problem! What are yalls thoughts? Is it legal to run with no muffler?

Instead of going out the side before the rear tire, get a turn down and clamp it on. that way you can take the muffler on and off when you want. It is legal to run without a muffler if you don't get a citation for noise. As long as the cats are still on u are good in Texas.

My thoughts: your either a country boy or under the age of 24 if you have a straight pipe.

Haha to reply to the last part I'm pretty sure I'm both! But that really answered my question, where I'm from the noise isn't a factor I'm just worried about getting it inspected and running it legal. Do you think if I had a turn down pipe the back tire would heat up to much?

I dont think it would heat up that much. I would guess the exhaust gases would be cooler with the higher flow and less metal. I had a dump before the rear axle on the stock muffler and it wasn't any different in the amount of heat it put off.
