Trade Up?
Guys, got a friend of mine who is selling his 03 F350 for $16k. It's a really nice truck and he has taken very good care of it. In fact back in October he dropped $7k into it to replace the heads, injectors and various other parts to fix all of the issues these motors had (it is the PowerStroke). I'm really interested in the truck, but I've never owned or had experience in the diesel industry. What are some of your takes, would you do it? I currently have a 98 F150 that runs strong but the body is starting to rust in a few places. His truck has 144,600 miles.

Dont walk R U N as far and fast away from that deal as you can!
If you want a diesel get a 7.3L but again maintenance records a must, buy a low mile truck vs a high miler. Guaranteed if you buy the 6.0 it will turn into a MONEY PIT!

if it has the 6.0 run, if it has the 7.3l run to his house and do the trade. my friend just bought a 02 f350 CC with the 7.3l and 130k miles for 17k, took her 2 months to find it because she wanted a manual.

I dont think the 2003 had the 6.0, I believe it was only 7.3 at that time. Do it.
144k is still very young for a diesel, you can milk many miles out of it with regular oil changes and whatever else it needs. Oil needs to be changed on time because it plays a bigger role in these engines

If he replaced all those problems properly and did an EGR delete that 6.0 is a good motor now.
I say jump on it. But try and talk him down to the 12-13 range first. Pay no more than 14.
Don't let these guys scare ya.
And they changed engines half way through 2003 model year.

Still don't know...
Man it seems that either it could be a really good move, or the worst one of my life...! Between this post and my one on the F150 side, there is no medium. Truck definitely has the 6.0, here's the CL ad he has posted. Thanks for you opinions so far, please keep them coming.

if it hasn't had the EGR delete its not worth the space it takes up in the driveway to me lol. if it has the delete and like wonder said, all the work done that he states, its an amazing rig and you need to get it.
