Should I be afraid of the 6.7?

I'm presently in a 2015 5.0 that is absolutely terrible at towing my enclosed car hauler. The stability is adequate at best and the power is sub-par for maintaining highway speeds. I'm interested in going up to a SD for the extra safety factor, but I find the 6.2 remarkably underpowered. The 6.7, however, I found very enjoyable to drive and it towed my trailer with zero effort. It's overkill for my needs (an Ecoboost F-150 would have plenty of power) but the 6.7 was a ton of fun. Are there any higher mileage problem-free 6.7 trucks? It seems like everything I read online makes it sound like I'll live in the shop.

Modern diesels are complicated now with all the emission standards. I wouldn't own one out of warranty strictly due to the emissions impact on the truck. As long as you have a good warranty I wouldn't hesitate to own one. Repairs can be very expensive if you start having issues.

Also consider the fact that you have to deal with the DEF, regens etc.

I've owned 3 over the last few years and never had any issues.

I agree, I would not own a modern diesel outside of manufacturers warranty. Repairs are beyond too expensive!

I have a couple of buddies who have 350 6.7 SRWs and they are solid, but both trucks are fully deleted. No worries about testing in SC. Both are used as work trucks and the deletion was done for longevity more than for any type of power gain.

The 6.7 should be an excellent truck, I would not be afraid of a used one with 100k, they hold their value better than any super duty there has ever been. Basically change oil and change fuel filters is all you should have to do. If you could afford a 15 F150 you could likely also afford a 2015-16 super duty and be in warranty. I would be more worried about owning a 2011+ ecoboost that's out of warranty than a 6.7.

Does your F150 have the lowest gears available, probably 3.73? I think the terrible aerodynamics of the trailer are slowing you down and zapping mpg more than the weight. My old 6.0 diesel super duty broke one night and we pulled it home with dads 2014 5.0 on a flat car hauler trailer and it pulled it nicely.

The 6.7 is the best Ford diesel since the 7.3 and it is much stronger. I was afraid to buy my previous 2011 Ecoboost because of the problems posted, but almost all of it turned out to be spark plug related. I went to a 30K plug change and traded it after 3 seasons of towing a 10K fifth wheel. I now have almost 24K on my F350 6.7L. It gets 12.5 towing the fiver vs 10 with the EB. I use Opti-Lube Summer Plus fuel additive and 5W40 synthetic oil and it runs great. Towing with the 6.2L would be too much like what you have now.

My truck has the 3.31 gears, unfortunately bin understand that's completely my fault, my '13 Eco
Had 3.31 gears and I thought it would be ok. It's not lol

My dad has a 15 F250 and I have to say that I completely agree that it is fun to drive. My next truck will be a Super Duty. It makes light work of hauling an 11,000lb tractor on a 2000lb trailer. Only thing that I didn't like is how much it sagged towing that but he may get airbags to fix that.

Agree with the expensive repairs. Neighbor just got some work done on his SD, not sure the full extent but cost him $13,000.
