It's actually 07.5 and newer that have the emissions crap on them. I could have a brand new truck and delete everything and I highly doubt any cop is going to stop and check my truck.

Your 06 Maxi falls outside of the current EPA mandated emission controls.

the key word here is IF you have a smart cop or a Ford Dealership report it you can get fined up to $10,000 for removing the DPF

I know this, it's not my first diesel. But I still have an EGR and if you delelte that or block it, it's suppose to be for "race purposes only". But luckily down here in south GA we don't have emissions test every year. What I was getting out is that I know several people deleting everything and they have never been pulled over for it.

Chances of anyone being specifically pulled over for that reason would be a rare occasion, unless a local cop pays attention to the EPA rules and see's black smoke coming out of a 2007.5 or newer diesel. There are quite a few states that don't require emissions testing on diesel engines; however, with the way this country is heading, it will surely be in the not so distant future. The OP's question was concerning the newer style trucks, specifically 6.7l (assuming PSD due to this being a ford site) that have more rigid controls than the pre DPF trucks. He asked why there would be such a big fine if someone were to get caught...not whether it could be done...

Just delete the emission stuff and never look back. Your motor will be much happier

I have NEVER heard of a single person being given the dreaded $2500 or $10000 fine. I am a sponsor on several Power Stroke forums and there has never been a thread started or a rumor started about someone getting fined. I have heard of smoke tickets being given out and even sound tickets for loud exhaust, but never a ticket/fine for no emissions equipment.

The issue is going to be for those shops that install setups on diesels (and gas vehicles) that delete the emissions equipment and then send the trucks out on the road. I am sure there will be loop holes for shops to get around legal action, but it will take a shop or two being cracked down on and being made an example of for things to change.

I understand the main question of the thread but the question about the "red" off road fuel fines- they use something like a wic material to dip tanks checking for the red dye which is just that-dye, it's usually got the same sulfur content as on road fuel- the government doesn't tax off road diesel, that's why it is illegal to run it in otr trucks, if you don't pay their taxes when your "supposed to" they usually tend to get a little pissy, n charge you with the fines. However if it's a farm truck, there's ways to run off road fuel on the highway BUT you'll still have to pay a tax and fill out the proper paper work

I have had my tanks dipped while at farm equipment sales. Walk out during the middle of the sale and see guys walking around taking samples. About 10 years ago they would even sample out of your fuel filter to see if you were running a "secret" tank somewhere. Buddy of mine had one in the bottom of his toolbox and ran red diesel, he got busted when they sampled his fuel filter in am 95 cummins.

I have a buddy who used to work in the Alberta oil sands. One time at work, they had a bunch of 55 gallon clear/opaque barrels of red diesel delivered to his job site. After a few days in the sun, the red diesel in the barrels turned into clear diesel, so they dumped it in their trucks legally! I haven't tried it myself though.
