Default Help in colorado

Ford F250- is it a lost cause?

Alright folks I need help.

I have a Ford F250 heavy duty work truck that we bought site unseen at a police auction. Has about 105k miles.

Overall good shape but it was stolen so there are ignition issues. It’s been sitting at my mechanics house in his yard for like a year and he wants it gone and so do I. He’s an hour away so it’s not easy to just show it.

At first he was going to fix it so we put about $600 into it in addition to a $500 tow. But either he’s unsure how to proceed or he just doesn’t want to, a bit of both and mostly he said “we can keep putting money in but at I can’t see what’s wrong with the ignition.”something like that. He wanted to fix the Chevy but not the Ford so maybe he just trusts himself more on a Chevy.

Motor seems fine, etc.

Titling shouldn’t be a huge issue, we actually purchased two trucks and where is able to title the other one just fine with the late fees and everything once our mechanic got it up and running. So we could sign bill of sale, and someone may be stuck w late fees maybe us but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Initially mechanic said he’d help part it out but he’s basically done I think.

Here’s the thing, we don’t really need it or have the cash to fix it but if we NEED to fix it to sell it then I suppose we have no choice. I just know it’ll be a beast with those low miles when repaired. We also know it must have been working just fine for quite some time based on theft date, carfax, and the fact that it’s jammed full of the man’s belongings in the back, he was clearly living out of it for awhile.

I just don’t know what to do. I’m already about $4200 with truck, tow and what works been done. I have had it on marketplace for parts, for sale, whatever. People don’t follow through.

Is it worth fixing? How bad *could* it be? I’m attaching some pics. Is it worth parting? Or is it a $4,000 mistake? Most junkers have said they’ll pay just $500. It hurts!!!

I’m in Colorado.

Welcome to the forum. If you could somehow get back to your place and look at it that would obviously be beneficial. The other issue is it’s been sitting for a year outside now and probably needs more work.
