Default 7.3 or 6.7

I know it’s been discussed 1000+ times but about to pull the trigger (ordering) and I’m still on the fence between the 7.3 gasser 0r 6.7 Diesel. I believe every time I see a 6.7 I’ll be like “you shoulda got the diesel” . Looking for any insight of pros and cons. I know the 6.7 cost more at buying and maintenance is quite a bit more but trying to talk myself(wife too) into a diesel. I tow a 3K RZR when I go 4 wheeling but that’s about it.

EDIT: 1/20/22. Ordered this Lariat 7.3 w/3.55 Lariat Ultimate package , chrome package ,sunroof and quad beam headlights.

Personally if you're not towing heavy often skip the diesel and go with a gasser. Fuel economy unladen it's that much of a difference anymore between gas and diesel (HD version). And the diesel's emission equipment can be finicky and problematic.

Go drive a Godzilla equipped F-250 and you'll buy it on the spot. It is THAT good.
Unless of course you need to tow a really heavy load, all the time.
Not sure why you are considering a Super Duty when a F-150 will tow that RZR all over creation with no trouble at all...?
As mentioned above...the diesel is just a much more expensive to maintain engine. Oil changes are outrageous...DEF is an additional cost.

DEF is not the hassle it is hyped to be. Needs about a gallon of DEF for every 50 gallons of diesel. Maybe less.

My 6.4L Powerstroke held 15 quarts. Guessing Godzilla will hold similar quantity of oil so oil changes will cost about the same. Worse, the fuel filter and water separator filter were a $70 set discount mail order, $150 installed at the dealer. Every 20,000 miles due to the 30,000 PSI fuel pump.

The 7.3L holds 8. So about half the cost for oil. And you don't need to change the fuel filters yearly.

I have an F-350 with a 7.3L on order. I decided to go with it over the diesel for several reasons:

It's my daily driver.
It cost $8000 less
Diesel is more expensive than premium unleaded here
Recurring maintenance costs
All the emissions crap/DEF
The CP4 fuel pump and all of it's issues

My Father in law tows a 7000lb travel trailer with an F-250 that has a 7.3. It does quite well. He was a diesel guy for years, and raves about this engine.

$3.499 vs $2.999 unleaded is the typical difference around here. 15-16%

Diesel has to get 11.5 MPG to gasoline 10.0 MPG to break even, ignoring capital expenses and maintenance. Might when towing. My observation is that a gasoline engine is better at sipping fuel under light loads.

I would factor in how long I intended to keep the truck. If I planned to keep the truck well beyond the miles/years of the longest warranty available, I would not consider a diesel. Diesel engine repairs are expensive.

I ordered a new F350 in 2019. I got a gas with 4.30 gears. I don't regret my decision. I tow 6-7k often and for a lot of miles at time. I tow 12-15k a few times a year locally. A gas engine works well for me.

If I didn't need a diesel, I wouldn't buy a diesel....Now wants are a whole 'nuther thing.

I have a neighbor with a 2020 and the 7.3. Another friend with an almost identical truck with the 6.2. Both love them and both claim about 14 mpg overall. Unless it is for commercial use it is hard to justify diesel anymore.

If you only tow a 3000 lb ATV you could do that with a Ranger. I don't know what the price difference would be, but it sounds like the 6.2 gas engine is more than enough for you.

I have been watching the past 10 years since trading my SuperDuty. I dispute your statement. My informal survey sees more gasoline SuperDutys in commercial service than diesel. The one exception is the tractor dealers. Tractors are diesel so they buy diesel support trucks. Local utilities and municipalities buy gasoline until they get up to F-550 size.

We had a few diesel school busses for a while but the new ones are gasoline again.

Diesel was an experience. I had 2. With both I started to fear the cost of repairs. A friend had a 6.0 that needed an alternator. We replaced it in my driveway. Then looked under my 2008 hood and mutually agreed, "Pay someone else to replace that one." His was as simple as tugging on the fan belt to drop a latch in place to keep it loose. Remove negative battery leads. One big lead on the alternator. 3 more bolts and it came off the top of the engine. The hardest task was finding the latch Ford provided on the engine for the fan belts because it was where we could feel it not see.
