Default 2003 f250 5.4

I’m looking at getting a 2003 f250 5.4 auto with 101k for 5 grand I currently own a 2007 F150 with the 5.4 and the cam phaser is on its way out the door was just wondering if anyone had any major issues with the 2003 5.4 that would deter you from buying one.

I assume this is a 7700 (light duty f250)? The 10th gens didn't have cam phasers so that's not an issue. These engines are stout workhorses when properly maintained but poor PM can really trash a triton quick. So make sure it's been taken care of. Really the only horror story I can think of is the spark plugs blowing out but people who still worry about that today are uneducated. FORD updated the ft/lbs to 28 and DRY. Do that and you won't spit out a spark plug.

Other than that these trucks drivetrains are pretty solid. So if it's properly maintained and you don't see rust then you should be good to go.

Rust areas on 10th gens are rear cab corners, rocker panels, above rear wheel, rear bottom of cab where bumper wraps around, oh and some people have problems with the radiator mounts going bad. Check those areas closely for rust.
