I am new to the forum, to afford, and to the PowerBoost / Pro Power and I am running into an issue with ground fault tripping.
I am trying to run the AC for my trailer using the Pro Power (I have the 7.2kW version) and every time the AC tries to switch on, the GF blows on the truck. If I am not using the AC, everything else in the trailer functions. I tried turning everything else off, but it still does the same thing.
I have a Power WatchDog wired into the trailer and it shows a draw of 0.4A and 37.2W with the AC off. The max amperage draw when the AC kicks on (I checked while plugged into my house outlet) is 9.1A and 1039W.
Any ideas on what could be causing this not to function? I have a 4 week trip coming up in about 8 days and really need to have this figured out. I also have a service appointment scheduled for this week, but guarantees they will be able to diagnose and repair before I need to leave. I’m not sure if I missed something here, but have you investigated the possibility of installing a “soft-start” unit on your trailer’s AC unit. The surge of power necessary to start the AC unit is what’s probably tripping your circuit breaker.
Two years ago I installed a MicroAir unit on my camper’s AC unit and now I can run it on an 1800W generator. Yes, these things are not cheap, but they do work. Read up on them.
