Wrong ECU?????
Hey guys....I have a post regarding a start-up/ EEC/ fuel relay problem. I suspected the ECU so I began searching for one. I have a 1985 f150 supercab 5.0 v8 AOD tranny. The number I pull off of the ECU is:
E6TF-12A650-VA
Guess what??? Rock auto has one listed with that number for a 1986 standard tranny f250. I am beginning to think that this ECU was pulled from a yard because it fit generally, but is wrong. I don't know. I need help clarifying this part number.
Rockauto for the 1985 year has all of the ECU numbers starting with:
E5TF-XXXX
I am wondering if I should go with the E5TF-VA for this truck and try it????
EDIT....Let me add- The "VA" at the end means standard tranny. Can an ECU for a standard work on an auto??? It is AOD tranny so there is no computer control. Can this be why putting it in gear drops rpm's more than normal and causes a drop then surge in gear???
Help!!!

For the part numbers:
1st digit: decade D=70, E=80 etc.
2nd digit: year in decade
So E5 = 85, E6 = 86 etc.
3rd digit T = Truck
Look for Ford parts decoder online may have more defined
What do other parts in your truck have? E5 or E6?
What is the 10th digit of your VIN? F=85 G=86.

Thanks KL........The 10th letter is F. I was yet able to look at other part numbers....Anyone ever see an ECU not matching a year of the truck??? I initially thought it was possible because sometimes at the later half of the year parts are upgraded and then used in the next year.
I have: E6TF-VA
I bought: E6TF-VA
I had an option to buy: E5TF-VA
Wonder if I ****ed up???
KL....You or anyone else have experience with ECU's that knows???
