Default what year

i have a 78 f150 4x4 with a 300 6 cyl 4spd that i would like to change to a 5spd can someone please tell me what was the first year ford used a 5spd in a half ton truck our what 5spd i can use with my transfer case without having to cut up and fab up all kinds of stuff.

P.S. did a search and look in history but no luck

If I read what I found right, the first 5 speed in a F150 was in 1988 and was a Mazda built M5OD. I have read that lots of people put in the T5 trans but really I do not know much about this subject.

i dont think the t5 trans will work in my 4x4 i am trying to find a 5sd that will bolt up to my transfer case

from the bit of experience that i have, it will be easier to find a tranny and xfer case combo instead of reusing urs, there are adapter plates to get a tranny attached to most xfer cases but i bet it would be simpler to pull what you want all in one piece from a wrecking yard

Oh, sorry about that. I remember looking it up and really did forget to search the 4x4 application. Hope you have good luck in your search.

Why are you wanting to change to a 5-spd? Do you have a true 4-spd or the "farmer 4"?
