Remove plugs, try to turn with wrench on crank pulley, still no go, then you have to pull the pan and inspect. Question, is the 429 a smaller version of the 460 or is it a larger 390

It is a 460 block with 429 Cid. The motor came out of a 73 car. Then built with cam and intake. I bought the truck last summer and it cuaght fire and. I pulled the motor and put it in a different pick up. When the motor was on the stand I turn the crank when I was putting in the distributor and it turned freely now that the clutch and pressure plate are in and Its bolted up the motor is locked up

well I finally figured out What had my 429 motor locked up ... after 3 long mornings and removing and installing the clutch and fly wheel 3 times. I finally found that the washers were missing from the fly wheel bolts. So i have to stab the transmission back in again and the truck 3 months in the making will be ready to run. WIlD.

Did you get the right bell housing. My dad had an 85 he traded for and the motor was locked up. He had a 300 changed to a 302 with a 300 bell housing and the 302 locked up cuz of it.
