Valve cover replacement on 83 302
Pictured is an ERG valve that has been moved out of the way to alow the passenger side valve cover to be installed. Two bolts were removed. I thought I could lift that out at the bracket but eventually figured out there was a flange below it that opened up with some persuasion allowing me the access I needed. I did not encounter any info on this anywhere else so thought I would post in an effort to help others faced with the same problem. Enjoy the ride.

That valve brings back memory's
That is actually the butterfly valve for the heat riser
(EFE) early fuel evaporative system for the last of the carburetor equipped vehicles
They wanted to be able to shut that hot air off after the engine gets up to operating temp
Make sure yours works and you will have less trouble with vapor lock or with the fuel boiling out of the carb on hot days

Just apply vacuum and see if the butterfly valve moves
You would have to check your VECI to see what controls the vacuum to see if that side of the system works
