Unknown Missing Parts
I just baught a 1982 F-150 XL. The guy I baught it from said that he had a rebuit 351 engine put in a few years ago and the mechanic did a lowsy job. He said not all of the smog system was reatached. The truck runs really rugh when cold and takes a good 10 minutes to warm up. If it is not warmed up, it emediatly stalls when I let off the gas and the acceleration is sluggish and jerky. I looked at the engine and found the air pump was seized. I rebuit it and put on a new belt and the engine is a bit smoother now; but, still stalls. I noticed that on the right of the engine compartment, as you are looking towards the firewall, there is a space where something should be. It is just over the wheel well. There are loose wires. What is saposed to be here. There is a hose just behind the carberator that has been cut and plugged with a golf tee. There is an air leak around the carberator that I cannot locate. Any suggestions?
It is an Electronic Engine Control module the one you need is dependant on your ignition system, I think you had a Duraspark II orginally, but, I do not know what mods were made when the engine was redone, like not connecting vacuum hoses to the right place, changed the distributor to the wrong type (points or TFI), or what else. That said I would go to the U-Pull and get one so you have all bolts and brackets.
