Default Transmission problem please help!

I have a 96 F150 XL - 4.9L - AUTO E4OD -

OK, so, I was having some tranny (E4OD) problems where it would do the following:

1. Bump Forward when at a stoplight
2. Jerks violently when driving sometimes (just randomly)
3. Rolls backwards when I pull into my driveway (incline around 45 deg)
4. (Most recently) I am hearing a hard metallic "KNOCK" intermittently sometimes when accelerating from a stop or accelerating when moving

I've been told it was the torque converter by someone before but not sure if y'all think just a torque converter would fix these problems or if I need to do a complete rebuild. I have been looking for an e4od for a good price on craigslist and other places but yet to find one for less than $500.

Also, please note, the hard metallic knock just started.

Any help or recommendations or suggestions on what might be causing this sure would be appreciated.

Hmmm, could be a combination of problems.

1. Could be too high idle speed, old and burnt fluid, TC locked up (although I doubt it), bad U-Joint.

2. Could be clutch slippage, bad U-Joint, TC Clutch engaging/disengaging.

3. Although, you may need to specify "rolling backwards" (as if it is in neutral?) Could be shift cable stretched or out of alignment, broken or unengaging parking pawl or parking gear (highly doubt it)...45 degrees is a good slope, could be normal. They have a little roll to them but its normal as long as it doesn't continue.

4. If its shifting fine, I would say it sounds like a Universal Joint.

Im not a professional but Im sure someone could add to my list. Before I would do ANYTHING, I would do a complete trans flush (drain TC, new filter, new fluid, flush trans cooler)...sometimes, its the simplest things that bring the biggest rewards.
