Default tires and wheel sizes

1978 F-150, 2wd, 460, stock. Looking to increase tire width and height. What wheel size and tire size can I go to, without a lift kit?

I am running 31x10.50r15 on my 85 at stock height but I dont know if that really would apply to your truck since it's a different year series.

The '78 isnt much different. I had 33" on my 2wd. A good front shock is a necessity though to keep from easily bottoming out. Also, F250 2wd front coils go right in, are inexpensive and give you 1" to 1 1/2" depending on which coil you get. There were about 8 different ones the last time I looked in the NAPA spring catalog. This applies all the way up to '96 and only requires an alignment. I would actually recommend this, the 460 is heavy and unless you've put springs in it I bet they should be replaced anyway. It's an inexpensive way to clear 33s n those trucks. I even ran 35s for a while on my '85 using this method. But it didn't leave enough travel for off road, street use only.
