Default ticking noise? 85 f-150

I just replaced all the vacuum lines on my 302 EFI.... luckily I got the entire harness from a u-pull place for a grand total of $3. I also added some corrugated plastic wire protector to some random wires around the engine bay.

Problem: when I start up the truck I dont hear any ticking but as I either rev the engine or put it into gear, I hear a ticking noise from under the dash/ transmission hump.... I drove it 1/4 of a mile and in that time the ticking seemed to be in sync with the gearing. it would drop off as i changed gears but If i didn't touch the accelerator, it would almost stop.

Well I can tell it's coming from almost behind the intake towards the transmission. The transmission dipstick isn't catching anything but I have no ide awhat to check. Fluids are in the safe zone. This problem has never occcured before.
if this doesn't make sense, I'll try to edit this in the morning for clarity....

I'm on board with this as well. If it was a lifter you would hear it all the time. I have a Pontiac that needs some lifter adjustments. You can hear them at any RPM over 1500.
