I was replacing the gaskets for the carb and intake/exhaust manifolds and noticed two broken lines that go from the carb and to the intake. one line is just a normal metal line that goes to the top side of the intake but the second is a rubber line that converts to a metal line and connect somewhere under the exhaust i believe? Does anyone have any clue what they are and if so where i can purchase them seeing as they're both broken. For the record its a 1983 F100 with the 4.9l I6 with a 5 speed. i believe it connects where i circled but it was broken so not 100%sure this line connects to the top but is broken
Outside of my sandbox with that particular carb but looks like some kind of system to heat things up towards pulling the automatic choke off faster and maybe preheat the carb somewhat using exhaust in addition to the electric heater in the choke assembly. Just guessing here, though. Looks like a manual choke may have been installed, so likely not an issue for that.
Gots to remember the early 80s just before fuel injection hit the scene. Carbs were getting ridiculously complicated in efforts to meet emissions standards that were being ratcheted down faster than the available technology to keep up. While cats came on the scene for cars in '75, light trucks didn't get nabbed until '79. Stuff like getting the choke pulled off as fast as possible, diminished engine horsepowers, unreliable EGR systems that didn't work worth a hoot - fun times to make the air all better and cleaner! At least we had electronic ignitions rather than the PITA points and condensers! :-)
That is the heat riser for the choke that is broken
Common
Just bent it over to be in the correct spot and it will still work
It just provides heat for the choke cap
Back in the old days you could replace that little pipe
It's pretty hard to get the old broken off piece of pipe out of the manifold sometimes
