Default stock throttle body size for the 1985 f150 302

just picked up a pretty decent shape 85 with the 5.0 in it. coming form the jeep world and having had a few newer moel f150s i know that these forums are the best places to go to find some answers that are otherwise a tad bit difficult to find by a google search. does anyone know what the stock throttle body size is on these older 5.0s?

It's the same for all EFI 5.0Ls & 5.8Ls, but I don't know the diameter. Why do you want to know?

the diameter is what i was looking for, my gas pedal is pretty hard to push down, the last two days that ive had it ive been trying to figure out what parts are going to take priority in being replaced, checked the retention springs inside the cab and they seem to be in pretty good shape. the throttle body lever itself seems to be gummed up trying to figure out what size it is thinking that if i order a new one i mine as well go with a slightly bigger throttle body. the only other thing im thinking it could be is the cable but ive kind of honed in on the problem at least i think.

No, replacing the TB isn't likely to improve pedal force. And putting a larger one on won't help anything - it'll confuse the EEC because there is no MAF on these old trucks. But if you're determined to replace it, just get one from a later ('87-96) smallblock V8 (5.0L/5.8L) in the junkyard.

IDK what "retention springs" you're talking about. The pedal has its own return spring, and the TB has a few. But high pedal force is most likely due to a kinked or worn cable, or damage to the colored plastic end that snaps onto the TB linkage.

return spring would be what i was referring too. the throttle lever is what is stiff sprayed it down with a lttle bit of pb blaster last night and will taking it for another spin this evening, and on the cable subject i might go ahaead and replace it to not have to worry about it down the line. now with the replacement of the throttle body from a later model why would i do that over getting a factory replacement or one off the smae year if possible to find?

PB Blaster is penetrating oil - not lubricant or cleaner. It will attack the seals & hoses, so I'd rinse it off ASAP.

New parts are not always GOOD parts, so replacing the cable is no guarantee that it won't be a problem again soon. If it already has a problem, replace it. If you can't find a problem with it, leave it alone. Same for everything else that isn't on the maintenance schedule.

The factory stopped making that throttle body decades ago. I don't think you can even find a later one new. If you find one from an '85, it'll probably be in the same or worse condition than yours.
