Default Starting problem in 81

When I hook up the battery terminals the truck will start cranking over and won't stop even if the keys aren't in it the only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery

You are sending power across your solenoid somehow. Doublecheck your wires.

It could also be your flywheel or starter getting stuck does it sound like a grinding noise? I had a truck that would do this & I simply skipped/jumped a tooth/grain or so on flywheel & never did it again.

He stated when he hooks the battery up to the cables it does this. That means he either had the ignition wire on the battery side or its bridged somehow .

Also..Check the starter cable I had a similar issue once & it turned out that my positive cable was touching ground or vise versa don't really remember!

Try replacing your starter solenoid and better cables to it and battery cables I had the same issue with mine. It was kinda freaky to experience it.
