Default spare tire

I bought a '78 yesterday and it needs a few things. Like a spare tire and jack for starters. It's a '78 4x4 with a 400ci engine.
Where does the spare go? where does the jack go?
These and many other 'newbie' questions will likely be littering this section of the forum in the next months. I apologize in advance.
Peace

If you can't find a spot that the spare originally was you could throw it in the bed. There are places that sell a spare tire holder that mounts it inside of the bed with the tire in a vertical position against the bed wall. A jack has many places you could put it...underseat, toolbox, behind the seat and so forth. Hope that helps

On my '86 the OEM jack and tire tool mounts to the side fender near the battery. The jack crank is attached with clips across the front / radiator.

I have abandoned the OEM jack and carry a bottle jack and 'star' lug wrench behind the seat.

The spare tire is mounted underneath the bed behind the rear axle. The tire is held up by a metal bar and other hardware all held by a padlock. If the tire is not present and you don't see the holder hanging down then it's been removed by someone.

My holder is so bent up that I have to put a jack underneath in just the right place to get everything to line up just right so I can release the brackets and tire.

Newer trucks have a cable winch.

'78 jack should be one of the little twistie ones that mounts on the front inner fender. has a strap that goes over it, and a wing nut that holds it down.

If you don't have the 1978 Ford Truck Owner's Guide, get it because it shows where all accessories are located. klricks is right, the spare is mounted beneath rear axle, jack is stowed on left front fender apron and the jack handle and lug wrench are stowed on floor under driver's seat. My 77 didn't come with spare wheel but had spare in the bed. I'd like to get the spare back under the bed.

I'm a newbie also and a grease monkey wanna be so this site is great for picking the brains of real monkeys.

Best
