The starters, flywheel are the same for the two engines. The harmonic ballance could be different.

Default Starter, flywheel

Thanks Bill for your info. on the 351m starter to 400 ford. i new they where externaly balanced at the ballancer but did not know about the flywheel. i just built a new 400 for my f150 to replace the old 351m i had since i have oun it. it is steel top shap other then a little blue smoke on the first start of the day. but after that it is fine, i believe its now close to the big 400,K. so i feel its time to replace it now. i lost track on the odomter after about 250K. by just not keeping up with the roll overs. i drive it as if it were new and steel have lots of life left in it. i have had them all and this one is by fore the best i ever had.

I agree about the 351M/400 engine family. Beautiful to work on, felt the intake gasket could have been better and maybe is now. Also, felt the valves guides were to soft, wore and made noise.

Default head CC

i know in the USA we have a bout 4 types of cleveland heads, only one is close chamber the others are open, but very a little in CC chamber volume , and the reson i would like to know is i put a new set of flat top pistons to acheve a 9.3 to 1 compresion ratio. and if i am right about this heads they should give me 9.5. to 1. so i think these heads were a 74 - 76CC and this would be good.
and a D5AE 351M are 400 head would be 76 - 78CC and would end up with 9 to 1 CR these would be lower then i would like it.
