I wouldn't think so either, mine has the 351 like his - so its hard telling. The only other thing I could think of is a vacuum issue.

Sorry, life and everything got in the way. The truck isn't fixed unfortunately. I replaced the mechanical pump again and now it runs but its hard to start and when it runs it's spitting back through the carb like it's getting too much fuel. It'll idle but it's super choppy and if you try and put it in gear it shuts down instantly. Sorry again for not coming back, I hate it when a thread ends without a resolution or an "I give up" message. Little more info, it's an Edelbrock 1406 manual choke carb and I've replaced the distributor all the usual oil, filter, plugs. wires. rotor, cap, icm etc. thanks everyone.

Maybe a carb issue. Float stuck. Try tapping on the sides

I pulled the carb last week and checked the floats, they were both dead on and loose as a goose. No sticking I’m afraid. Also when you really give it gas, fuel comes right out of the holes next to the rods. The adjuster screws are all the way in.
