Default Rebuilding Carb

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum - just bought a '79 F150 for a few hundred bucks and am working on getting it running. 351 V8 2bbl. It's running okay right now, but I'm thinking the carb needs some work. Gas squirts out on the front underside of the carb when the engine is revved. Any suggestions on what brand of rebuild kit I should get? Any secrets to rebuilding a carb? I'm pretty much a novice but can follow an instruction sheet with the best of 'em. Thanks.

Pull the numbers off the front of the carb and get a rebuild kit. I wouldn't mess with it if it is running good. Just replace the gasket on the bottom and screw it down right.

By running out of the bottom do you mean the throttle body section on the bottom or the metering section above it? If it is a Holly they have a nasty habit of the screws holding the metering body to the throttle body working loose. I have actually had engine fires from this happening, not serious ones fortunately when the meter body topples off of the top spilling the gasoline out of the float chamber on the top of a hot engine. The crappy thing about this model Holly is the 4 screws that hold the bottom and the top togather can only accessed by taking the carb' off the the intake, these four screw are visible spaced around the bottom of the throttle body. the is just one of the reasons why I detest Holly carburetors. The Autolite two barrel carb' many of the Fords where equipped with is a pretty good OEM carburetor. I hope you have the Autolite two barrel.
