Default Quick question gear ratios!

Hey guys! So quick question I need a new rear end my door jam is a h-92 code
I believe that is a 3.55 gear ratio in a 8.8 rear end. My front end is a Dana 44
Could I replace the rear end with a 9in 3.50 gear successfully?

H92 is 3.55 limited slip. You could replace it with a 9" but depending on the year you'll loose the use of your speedometer.

So the 3.55 to 3.50 swap wouldn't hurt anything ? Shouldn't have problems with my front end?

I wouldn't know that. Even with that small difference I know it's generally a bad idea to have mismatched gears.

Haha yea probably so. I found one like mine at the local junkyard they wanted 250$ seemed a bit pricy to me, but you got to do what must be done to keep the old ford alive.

Yeah I know that I'm searching the yards for an axle for mine. If it comes down to it you could put in anything you find just remember not to use four wheel drive.

Definitely don't want to have mismatched gears front and back. When you put it in four wheel drive, the front axle will want to spin at a different speed than the rear, which will either result in replacing another differential, or wipe out your transfer case.

VERY small differences are acceptable. Ford put the 4:10 rear matched up to the 4:09 Dana front. I'm not sure what the match up on the 3:55's would be but it more than likely will not be a perfect match either.
As long as your wheels are slipping a bit (these trucks aren't designed for dry pavement 4WD) 2 or 3 extra hundreds of a turn is probably not the end of the world.
But getting the right axle is a better idea.
