Default Only starts when accelerator is fully pressed

After changing the fuel pump my truck will now only start and stay running if the accelerator is fully pressed and then after a few minutes cuts out. With the pedal pushed down it only just ticks over. Any ideas?

Vague explanation. If this did not happen before, you have wrong or a bad fuel pump. Why did you change it in the first place?

Are we supposed to know what "your truck" is? Put its COMPLETE description into your signature as this caption explains:

What does "ticks over" mean?

Apologies its a 1982 Ford F-150 4x4 Short Bed XL - 5.0L V8 302, Dual tanks.

I think 'Ticks over' might be an English expression. When the accelerator is fully pressed down the engine is barely idling.

I will check the fuel pump is working as expected today but I replaced it due to hardly any gas coming out of the tube going to the carb when I cranked the engine.

Finally figured out the problem. Once I got the truck started and had someone keep the gas pedal pressed I was able to investigate the engine. I noticed that fumes were coming out of the carburetor so I adjusted the the distributor cap and the truck immediately sounded better. After that I got a timing light and set it up correctly. After driving around the cul de sac for a few laps I now know my next job is the brakes.

Thank you Steve83 and Raski for your help on various threads I started over the last few weeks.

The captions in this photo album explain the brakes:
