So I have a timing chain in my 84 f150 with no timing marks on the gears, I am ready to put the chain in now but am not sure if I am looking for the wrong thing. Can someone tell me what I am supposed to be looking for? The manual says marks, the new set of gears has dots and the old one has neither?

Only the mark on the top of the picture lines up with the lower gears rail even then its not a straight match...

 

i'd try cleaning that up a little bit first just to make sure its not hiding behind the grit i see in that picture
