need a little help
on my 78 250i adjusted my idle a little bit so i would stay running when i first crank it and not have to keep giving it gas... now its running great but smells as if its running to rich(to much gas not enough air) how do i fix this?
thanks

If you have a old dwell meter with the low rpm tack built into it this will be easy.
Warm the engine to normal temp, shut her down and screw the idle mixture screws in until they gently bottom out, count the turns on both screws as you screw them in.
Now back the mix screws out 1 1/2 turns, hook up the dwell meter and set it on rpm.If you have a vacuum guage hook it up also.
Start her up,watch the tach and vac. guage as you screw the mix screws in or out. When you adjust the mix screws do it in small increments, and give it a few seconds to take effect befor making another adjustment. The idea is to have both screws set the same for ballance.
When you make adjustments watch the tach and vac.guage ,if you're screwing out and the guages drop, you'll know to screw them in (or vice versa) until the guages reach the highest point. When you reach that point she should be done. The only thing left to do is reset your idle rpm on the throttle linkage.
