lack of info...
Hope someone can point me in the right direction, I have a 1983 f-150 with a 1985 302 and a 1985 c-6 trans.. A previous owner has plugged off every vacuum hose and missed others) and I have no clue how it should be routed, the original emissions sticker shows for a '83 six cylinder. So that is no help, I plan to remove the high performance air cleaner ( water gets around the carb in a heavy rain) The truck is difficult to start and until a week ago would idle sky high when taken out of gear ( someone turned the idle way up) I would like to start out by eliminating any spark plug miswireing but I can olny locate #1 clylinder on the distributor and no clue how the plugs should be wired, The carb seems to flood during driving and gets worse the longer its driven. looking to try to remedy the samller items first and work my way up. I guess what I really need to start out is 1. A emissions/ vacuum diagram for a '85-302 (not fuel inj.) and 2. a plug wire layout to doulble check.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Two firing orders were used during that era. 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 and the other is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. #1 is passenger side front or 1 thru 4 for the RH head (passenger side). #5 thru 8 is LH head or drivers side front to back. Good luck with the vacuum diagrams, check a Chiltons or Haynes manual.
okay will give this a try, it may be misfiring, (as dumb as my next question sounds..) when I run the plug wires, I go counter clockwise from 1 to the next in fire order,( 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8) or (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) and not run 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, ? just want to double check as I have messed myself up before years ago..
thanks for the advice!!!!!!

You are correct with your assumption, follow the fireing order not the consectutive numbering. As many times as I have worked with distributor caps and wires, the direction of rotor rotation still eludes me and always will. I simply look at tower #1, grab the adjoining wire, if its #8, wrong direction Billy, you have to go the other way (you dumb _hit). Then again, if its 5 or 3, I have the correct direction and also the correct firing order. Follow me?
I know in the Haynes manual it shows counterclockwise for direction, . will look at it sometime over the weekend and and see if any were miswired or if it is the alternate fire order. Thanks much this has been a big help.
