Default I6 upgrades???

I know the I6 300 '81 F150 4x4 is typically referred to as a "work truck" nothing fancy and not alot of power buuuuut after some new brakes, new suspension, new steering pump, new rad and some body work I would like to spruce her up a little under the hood.

I was hoping for a few suggestions in terms of: a new carb (double/four barrel?), air intake, intake manifold and headers? Where I live we don't have to worry about exhaust regs so it will be straight piped from the headers.

Right now she is all stock, crusty old leaky single barrel carb, rotten exhaust manifold and the stove pipe air cleaner.

If you know rough guestimate prices too that would be awesome.

Thanks!!

Straight pipes on a 6 really take away fro m the torque of the motor, especially on a carbed motor. You'll lose your low end power and that is the only thing the 300 has going for it. A header is a good idea, but make sure the primary tubes on it aren't too big.
