is it really bad when your first letting out the clutch when the truck stopped? that would be a pretty good indication that the clutch is toast.

yes the clutch has started to chatter at take off, i just replaced the slave 2 weeks ago. that is one issue but it is not slipping at all it still hooks up after i get out of 2nd, but i have started to notice that chattering at take off. from stoped start off in 2nd its chattering some. so you think clutch, and mounts might be in order????? i did not even think about the clutch becuse it shows no sign of slipping??

Check all mounts, and the bellhousing bolts. The splines on third gear are worn, letting it jump out. I've known people who drove for years with the transmission jumping out of gear. On one that jumped out of fourth, the guy cut a piece of wood just long enough to jamb between the dash and the gear shift with it in fourth.

About the only cure for third gear is to replace it. As for rebuilding the transmission,it would prolly cost about as much in parts as it would to buy one from the salvage. If you get one from the salvage there a lot less down time also.
