Anyone ever swapped the 80-86 gauge cluster lights for a different color? ive got a blue interior..... so i think blue gauge lights would be cool. any input or ideas would be awesome!

Haven't had my cluster out in awhile... If I remember right the gauge is a sealed assembly, (to hinder odometer tampering), and the bulb sockets with clear white bulbs are plugged or snapped into the back of the assembly. The green tint is produced by green plastic 'gels' in various places and are part of the internal assembly. I don't think you can get to the 'gels' without breaking into the cluster?
Not sure what color you would end up with by changing the bulb color(s) only?

I found some blue bulbs and tried it a while back..... It uses a clear bulb with a green filter, and i tried the blue bulb both with and without the filter. somewhat worked, just not very bright. I was thinking more along the lines of an LED conversion? like some that are made for the 6th gen trucks and broncos?

You can get some LEDs from superbrightleds.com and you CAN take apart the cluster, I have a factory tachometer in my 86 bronco and had to replace the cluster, so I took the old one apart you just have to be careful. On the back of the cluster there is 2 screws holding in each gauge and the speedometer just take them out and be careful popping them out, then you can take the lights out by twisting them out and the bulbs sit inside a plastic housing you just lift the bulb out and pop one in its place, you can take the blue filters out they are supposed to just be able to be squeezed in the back or take something small and punch the tabs out. I plan on doing it to my 1979 F150 to brighten up the cluster, I'll post up how I did it in the thread I started about "Project Updates and other things".

Hope this helps, need anymore help PM me or leave a visitor message.
