fuel transfer switch location
Bought a 1984 F150 about two months ago. Am working through many issues, but it is a fun vehicle. Two days ago, it died on me on the highway. It was obviously not getting fuel. It has two tanks. I had been adding gas in the front tank. Well, I troubleshot the fuel issue to the tank switch solenoid and had fuel to it, but not out of it. So I rigged the line to the mechanical fuel pump straight to the front tank to get home, and am OK. Then I took the solenoid off and it works as it is supposed to, NO to the rear tank and when energized to the front.
The question is where do I find the switch to flip from front to back tank. I cant seem to find any switch on the dash or anywhere handy. Any ideas?

Some trucks have the switch down underneath on the frame rail.
Can you follow the wires from the tank switch valve?
I feel like an idiot. Just as you said klricks, the switch is just to the right of the heater controls. I took it for a heater fan control switch. And, it works. I am still getting no fuel from rear tank, but i crawled under it tonight and the hose from tank tow to metal line seems so soft, I think is is closing when there is suction on the line. I will replace and expect this will cure everythink. Thanks so much
I think I thought the same thing when I first saw that setup. I was looking somewhere else for the switch as well.
It always struck me as odd that the tank select switch is integrated into the panel with the heater, AC and defrost controls.... It does look exactly like the fan control switch on the left side.
What's funny about mine is that it is labeled Left & Right when I have Front & Rear tanks.
If the new hose does not fix it then you may need to drop the tank and pull the sender and clean or replace the strainer.

Thanks,
It did fix it. As soon as I replaced the hose, which I had to do blind because there was no way to see up there, I just felt it, I got fuel out when I sucked on the line with my suction pump.
Now, everything is hooked up and works. It is kind of neat to be able to switch between tanks. I replaced all the old rubber hoses, as they were pretty rotten.
My switch is labeled front and rear.
Thanks again.
